ZoltVPN runs on Windows in three versions: 64-bit for most modern PCs, 32-bit for older machines, and ARM for laptops with ARM processors, such as Snapdragon-based models. To choose, open Settings → System → About and look at "System type", then download the matching installer from our download page, install it, sign in and press connect. The app uses the same CyberPort AI engine as ZoltVPN on phones, choosing between 10 connection models and switching automatically when one is blocked or slow.
Which version do you need?
Check your system type
On Windows 11 and Windows 10, open Settings, go to System, then About. Under Device specifications, find System type. It describes two things: whether Windows itself is 64-bit or 32-bit, and what kind of processor you have.
| "System type" says | Download |
|---|---|
| 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor | 64-bit |
| 64-bit operating system, ARM-based processor | ARM |
| 32-bit operating system, x64-based processor | 32-bit |
| 32-bit operating system, x86-based processor | 32-bit |
The third row catches people out: some older PCs have a 64-bit processor but were set up with 32-bit Windows. What counts is the operating system, so choose the 32-bit installer.
Why ARM has its own version
Windows on ARM can run many apps built for ordinary PCs through emulation, but emulated apps use more battery and run slower. A VPN works closely with Windows networking, so a native ARM version matters more than it does for an ordinary app. If your laptop has a Snapdragon processor, including many recent thin-and-light laptops and some Surface models, use the ARM installer.
Installing step by step
- Download the right installer from the ZoltVPN download page. Save it somewhere easy to find, such as your Downloads folder.
- Run the installer. Windows will ask for permission to make changes, because a VPN needs to change network settings. Choose Yes. On a work PC, you may need your IT team to approve this.
- Follow the prompts and wait for the installation to finish.
- Open ZoltVPN from the Start menu.
- Sign in, or start your free trial: 7 days, no card needed.
- Press connect. Leave the location on automatic unless you need a specific country.
Your first connection
The first time you connect on a new network, the app may take a few extra seconds. CyberPort AI is choosing between its 10 connection models based on your location, your internet provider and live performance. After that, it remembers what works on each network, so your home Wi-Fi, your office and your phone's hotspot each reconnect faster next time.
If the connection is later blocked or slows down, the app switches to a different model automatically. You don't need to change protocols or paste configs. We explain the engine in more detail in what is CyberPort AI.
The Windows app is available in the same six languages as our other apps: English, Persian, Arabic, Chinese, Turkish and French.
Why not just use the VPN built into Windows?
Windows has its own VPN client under Settings → Network & internet → VPN. It is useful for connecting to an office that gives you server details, and it supports standard protocols such as IKEv2, L2TP and PPTP. The limitation is that these are fixed, well-known protocols. Their traffic has recognisable fingerprints, so in censored or strictly managed networks they are detected by deep packet inspection and then throttled or cut. When that happens, the built-in client has nowhere else to go: you have to find different server details and try again.
The ZoltVPN app works differently. CyberPort AI measures how each of its 10 connection models performs on your network and moves to another one when the current model is blocked or slow. For a PC used in Iran, China, Russia, Turkey or the Gulf, that difference is often what decides whether you can work at all.
Keep the app up to date
Install updates when the app offers them, ideally while you have a good connection. Updates can bring improvements for new network behaviour, and it is far easier to update on a quiet day than in the middle of a disruption.
Troubleshooting common Windows issues
Another VPN or proxy is installed
Two VPN apps active at once usually conflict, and system-wide proxy settings can send traffic around the tunnel. Disconnect or quit other VPN apps first. If you set a proxy manually, check Settings → Network & internet → Proxy.
Antivirus or firewall prompts
Some security software asks whether to allow a new network connection. Allow ZoltVPN; if your antivirus blocked it silently, add the app to its allowed list and reconnect.
Work and school laptops
Managed PCs often have policies that block new network software, or a corporate VPN that must be used instead. Ask your IT team before installing. Our article on working behind strict networks explains what a personal VPN can and can't do in managed environments.
Connected, but websites don't load
- Disconnect and connect again.
- Check that your PC's date and time are set automatically; secure connections fail when the clock is wrong.
- Clear Windows' DNS cache: open Command Prompt and run
ipconfig /flushdns. - Restart the PC, then connect before opening your browser.
After sleep or hibernation
When a laptop wakes, it often joins a different network or gets a new address. If the VPN doesn't recover on its own within a few seconds, disconnect and connect again.
Public Wi-Fi with a sign-in page
Hotel and airport networks often show a sign-in page. Disconnect the VPN, complete the page in your browser, then connect again.
Windows alongside your other devices
One ZoltVPN account works across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android and Windows. Each plan includes a set number of devices; check the pricing page for details. Installing on your PC is a good moment to make sure your phone and tablet are set up too, so you're protected on every screen you use.
FAQ
Can I use the 64-bit version on an ARM laptop?
Use the ARM version. It is built for your processor, so it runs natively instead of through emulation, which is better for speed and battery life.
Do I need administrator rights to install?
Usually, yes. Windows asks for permission because a VPN changes network settings. On a work PC, your IT team may need to approve it.
How do I know if my PC is 32-bit?
Open Settings → System → About and look at System type. If it says "32-bit operating system", use the 32-bit installer, even if the processor is 64-bit.
What should I do if it still won't connect?
Try another network, such as your phone's hotspot, to see whether the problem is the network. If it persists, our 24/7 support team can help through the contact page.
